Why is that sometimes a 3/4" bronze hose fitting will fit a 3/4" ID hose and sometimes it will fit a 1" ID hose? It seems that some pipe to hose adaptors specify the hose size as the ID of the hose it is meant to fit while others specify the ID of the hose barb?
What can't everybody just measure the same way?
Crazy ain't it, just make sure they're a tight fit, with two clamps facing different directions and grease on the clamp screws.

Argh! I feel you pain as I just finished buying all kinds of fittings. Most frustrating.

A 3/4" fitting that takes a 3/4" ID hose is a "standard" fitting. The ID of the fitting is about 5/8". A 3/4" fitting that takes a 1" hose is a "full flow" fitting. The ID of the fitting will be 3/4". I've most often seen this with seacocks. It can be important in some applications, like engine cooling water intakes.

The problem being that the mail order places don't tell you if the fittings are normal or full flow and you don't know what you're getting until the wrong size fitting arrives (after waiting a week for it to come and paying huge custom brokerage fees).

There's a solution for THAT, at least: tell the shipper you'll clear it through customs yourself. Saves something in the vicinity of 90% of what the couriers charge for customs brokering.

Guess it depends on who you order from. Most of mine came from Jamestown and Defender (Groco and Conbraco). Both say standard or full flow in their catalogs.

The mail order places are inconsistent for sure. I order a lot of bronze plumbing and thru hull parts from yachtsupplydepot.com--they have great prices however you have to really know what you want and what the manufacturer's part number is for that part in order to order with because the description and photo don't necessarily match what you're ordering. This is true for Buck Algonquin, Groco, Perko, Conbraco/Apollo... a bit frustrating.

Get yourself a set of plastic calipers. Some hose and rubber shops carry ones with pipe nomenclature on them but having them is invaluable for spec, ing fittings. Makes life easier.
