Here’s one ‘in the frame’:

And here’s one afloat, with a youngster learning the ropes. 1950s. River Teifi, West Wales.

When I was a kid in Junior School we went on a trip to see the coracles on the Teifi. I wangled a go in one. Being used to a 14ft clinker boat I found it, er, a little unstable. The coracle guys also showed us their salmon nets, and one guy had scars all up his arm. “What’s all those scars” I said being a nosey horrible kid. “Otters” he said, “They get tangled up in the nets sometimes and the ungrateful things bite when we are getting them out”

I was over in the west last year and saw a guy selling coracles by the side of the Teifi.

Did you buy one PISTN? Be just the job on the Nedd Fechan in a flood.

I always thought that the Dee was pretty 'boney' up near Llangollen... Even when the water was up... That's gotta hurt.

The big S at the bottom has some interesting sub-surface currents if you paddle an ultra-low volume boat.
