Here's what will occupy my time for the next year or so. She's a 1959 Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. (Peshtigo, WI) Off-Shore Cabin Cruiser with 18'-8" centerline length. Not bad looking from afar. But walk around to the transom, and yikes!

The folks I obtained her from were moving the rig out of the woods a month ago or so. The rotten transom coupled with the 105 HP Chrysler outboard hanging there (300 pounds or so??) caused a minor failure! No big deal, I knew I had to replace the transom anyhow!
Getting the boat from their trailer to mine was a fun. Launched it in his yard and moved it to my trailer. By the time we got it lined up for my trailer, there was plenty of water in her stern! And my two -wheel drive Dodge Ram didn't have the oomph to pull here out on the wet grass, so we had to get a Chevy truck to help. The two trucks in tandem got the rig out!
I wish someone had a video camera on us during this task!
Oh what joy! I love these adventures!

That stern shot is worthy of a caption contest thread.
I hope you don't mind :o

Pretty sure I saw it at BSLOL Minnetonka show two weeks ago with Andreas' name on it...still beautiful.

Yes, I finally sold the '61 Thompson Sea Lancer with 75 HP Johnson. She went to Terre Haute, IN.
And NO, she was NOT at the Lake Minnetonka Antique & Classic Boat Rendezvous on 06 September. I had my little 14 ft. double cockpit runabout displayed.
A caption contest is a great idea!

Thompson made a good boat. I'm fond of the utilities, but this one looks like a fun little camper.
It seems to me their designers caught on to the need for greater flair in the hull sooner than did Lyman's. From memory Lymans from that era are much rounder in the topsides. Any thoughts on that Andreas? The flaired hull isn't as beautiful a shape to my eye, from a purely aesthetic point of view, but function has its own beauty. Much drier boats with the power on in a chop.
Have fun!

Yes, I believe Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. at Peshtigo, WI preceded Lyman with the flare to the hull and stem. Thompson had major redesigns in their line in 1959, 1962, and 1964. Each time, they added more flare. The wooden lapstrake boat with the most flare to my knowledge was T & T Boats, Inc. of Wausaukee, WI (Thompson spin-off).
Thompson Boat Company of New York, Inc. at Cortland, NY did not have the same hull shape as Thompson of Peshtigo after 1961 or so.

Here is "My Six Sons", photo taken in August 2008. She's a 1964 T & T Boats, Inc. 18 ft. Breakers. I am son number 5!
When the boat was obtained by my father in May 1965, it was dubbed "My Five Sons". Two years later my mother is pregnant. Child # 6 arrives and thank goodness it's a boy. The digit in the boat name was changed from five to six!
