Turn of the Century Shipmate Cook Stove ~ Very Rare & Hard to Find. This neat wood cook stove come off a ship in 1900. It measures 17" x 17" x 23" and is ready to use. It has two burners and an oven. Perfect for the upcoming Winter season. Would make a great conversation piece as this stove is not something you see everyday. Fabulous condition, nothing to mention.
We can deliver this to Asheville or the surrounding area for a fee. Local pick-up is always welcomed. http://images.craigslist.org/010400011606010304200808255ac6e75bf953bf27b200f30f .jpg http://images.craigslist.org/01010301040501031120080825ed1b378ec9852e7c7b004417 .jpg http://images.craigslist.org/01020001160701040320080825623a486a15faa357890008eb .jpg http://images.craigslist.org/0101040116000104022008082581e6c1ec5880ec8e3300bfc1 .jpg

If it were this side of the pond...

(btw, has someone painted it with silver paint? )

I'm not much familiar with these critters. The "paint" is probably some sort of aluminized stuff in lieu of blacking. Ugly, but easily reversed. What's with the two fire doors I wonder?

Looks like a find if the price is right.

Anyone buying it should probably take the time and give it a good look see. Over a hundred plus years some things can go wrong. Over firing cracking or distorting a casting at the top of the list.

P.S. It's also pretty large.

I have one of those stoves, for it to be safe it needs its legs which I don't see in the pic. Its set up on a piece marble or granite that will crack if you heat it up! If any one is interested in buying it it is a good price (I've seen them much higher, and in worse shape) and some haggleing won't hurt either. shipping weight is right around 300 pounds. If you go to; http://www.marinestove.com/index.htm Give them a call, the guy to talk to is Andrew I believe. He is the owner and he can forge a set of legs for it! He had something to do with buying the plans or patents from shipmate. Or some such thing like that, great guy and real easy to talk to.
Good luck,
Paul

Yeah, but what about what appear to be two fire doors on the left in the photo? Must be some reason.

I thought the top left door was firebox and bottom was for ash cleanout/shaker?

Great stove! I have one and wouldn't part with it for any price! I took the legs off of mine and set it on an insulated stainless steel galley liner.

The top door on the left side of that was always a bit of a mystry to me. But the only thing I could think that it is there for is a top draft for burning coal. The small pad eye on the top of the left side of the oven door is the oven control damper. It is a very well made stove, and very controlable! Damn things make the best baked potatoes!
