View Full Version : Spraying two-part "varnish"?

I had intended using the Interlux two part Perfection varnish for the interior of my Goat Island Skiff but I read the instructions this morning and see that it is to be either rolled or brushed. Spray isn't specifically forbidden but it isn't offered. It is, however, for the rest of the Perfection line of solid colors; they can be brushed, rolled or sprayed.

Is this really an EPA issue with the clear finish or are there problems associated with the spraying of two-part varnishes?

Two-part LPU's can be very dangerous to spray. Spraying releases isocyanates which are poisonous. Brushing and rolling does not release them and is relatively safe.

If you spray, you should have a positive pressure respirator with a source of fresh air. Given the small number of frames in your boat, you may want to roll and tip or use a brush.

Thanks, Scott. Rolling and/or brushing it will be.
