View Full Version : Lead anyone?

If anyone is looking for lead I know of a source. What source you may ask? Let me start by saying I have just spent the last two days cutting my 48' Alden ketch into small disposable pieces. Unfortunately, my mooring line succumbed to the ravages of a harsh Northeast wind and took my boat on her final journey to an unforgiving pile of rocks. It was a very sad and disturbing day. I had her for 23 years and have a lot of fond memories. So, my goal is to salvage and sell what I can and start over again. I dunno, maybe a schooner this time? Any good hulls around? In any event, I really do have a lot of lead.
Mariner2k, if only you lived on this side of the pond, I am chasing about 700 kilos of lead.
edited to included my condolences mate, bad news indeed. The thought of lead blinded me to your plight, sorry about that.

Damn! That's incredibly bad news Mariner. Good on you for showing the brave front - but my heart really goes out to you. A sad time, for certain.

Mariner, First off, sorry about your loss. That must be deeply disheartening. Can't imagine.
May I suggest giving The Landing School a call. They are a non-profit boatbuilding school. They take donations. Perhaps they can use the lead for casting some Haven keels for their small boats course. They are in Arundel, Maine.
Cheers,
Clint

I do know a young couple rebuilding a double ended Herreshoff. I will mention your thread to them.
Do you have a stove or an oven that you are looking to sell?
All the best.... and sorry for your loss but remember you may look back on it and realize that things turned out for the best. Now is certainly a buyers market

Not in the market for lead, but stay in touch and I'll take you for a ride next summer.
I'm in Wickford.
Good luck.

Thanks all for the heartfelt wishes. Wickford was my location also. I'll be the best deckhand ever. I'll probably sell off what I won't need and look for another boat in due time. Already got the feelers out. As far as a stove goes, sorry I was in the process of redoing the galley and I was actually looking. Someone gave me a camper stove if you'd like to check it out greg. You can have it.

M2k,
Sorry to here the grim fate of your craft! That is truly a bad day in a mariners life!
If you are selling all I would be interested in teak blocks if you have them or salvageable sailcloth not to maention a gang of other goodies. PM me if you want to discuss any of it.
Thanks ,
Paul

Speaking of cutting up boats, this one is going in the dumpster right now. It's in Fort Lauderdale. May be some lead, ect. avalable. The contact is in this thread:http://ssca.org/DiscBoard/viewtopic.php?p=41880#41880 and that's all I know about it.
