Saturday, November 15th, a Detroit Area WoodenBoat Forum EBS will be held.
Any and all welcome to attend.
Suggestions for where we should meet...
Milo Christensen
10-26-2008, 07:43 PM
I'll throw out a suggestion for a general area:
I-275 & I-696 is easy to find and get to for just about everybody.
The area around Novi Road is chock full of close-to-the-mall kinds of eating/drinking places.

Unfortunately, I'll be on the other side of the state that day.
But I would suggest Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak as a suitable meeting place. Raise a toast to the invisibles in my absence. (Or maybe I'll be present, just invisible...)
Hope you get a good turnout for it.

I'll try to be there. November 15 used to be a magic day here in Michigan since it was the opening day of deer season, but I haven't hunted in ten years and I'm not sure what the season calendar looks like now.
I don't get out much to offer a suggestion other than it should be someplace that is accessible without going through the I-75 freeway construction mess in Detroit. Milo's mention of the I-275 corridor would steer most away from that.
Ron Carter

Still is a holy day. The reason I'll have problems getting there. There is an outside possibility I can make it. For those of us outlanders NW of town Milo's suggestion works very well.

Watching with intrest.
Thinking out loud....
"Hmmmmm......I owe Allan a fish dinner and a beer.
Gas is only 2.37 a gallon, two hours east of Detroit."

For that matter, "A-squared" would be a decent location as well. (And wouldn't that be a treat for Paul!)
If you wanted to move a little farther west, Cleary's Pub in Chelsea is a great place to meet for beers and a meal. In the evenings they often have live music, but it's usually pretty low key and easy to converse over.

Better than even chance I'll be able to get away on the 15th. Will know for sure later this week. Can't offer a specific suggestion for a venue. Haven't lived in the area since 1968.

Cool.
Why don't we give the thread till this weekend then nail down time and place.

But I would suggest Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak as a suitable meeting place.
Did that before, not bad, Royal Oak/Birmingham has lots of good food and drink establishements. The Novi area is good as well. I live not far from there and know of a few places that are good but not to commercially crappy. Anyone else (besides Paul) been to Sweet Lorrai's? There's one in Novi and one in Royal Oak.

I am planning to attend. As a suggestion--we are winter-storing in the water at Edison Boat Club. This is tucked in behind the power station on the Detroit River. They have a bar and restaurant, which may be available to non-members. (I am not a member, just store there.) Dunno if this has any interest. We will be tarping the boat, but it's kind of functional below.

Thanks,

Elbow Bending Session. Typically drink, food, and yarns. Rumor has it that occasional side effects are broken dishes and invitations to leave but that is unconfirmed by reliable witnesses.

Alright guys, do y'all want to meet on the west side of Detroit in Novi near this intersection I-275 & I-696, or do y'all want meet downtown where Dan keeps his boat at the Edison Boat Club?
And about what time should we throw this shinding?
Looking forward to it its gonna be fun and good to meet some more forum members?

And where the hell would you find a reliable witness at a WBF EBS?:D

My preference would be something north west but I'm in for wherever best fits the group. I'm expecting to devote most of Saturday and a good part of Sunday to the trip so I'm flexible on starting time. Been 15 years since I've been downtown so if we go that way it would be good to start before dark for navigation purposes.

Alright Guys, Let's meet on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in either Novi or Farmington Hills which are both less than 2 miles from this intersection, I-275 & I-696. I'll put up a list of a few restaurants to choose from sometime today.

Doesn't look like a bad one in the bunch. After further review as they say on Sunday afternoon my personal ranking would be:1 Rocky's Northville, 2 Gus O'Connors, 3 Steve and Rockys, 4 Mitchells, 5 Little Italy, 6 Matt Prentice, 7 Shiro. I'm still up for whatever the group decides.
Milo Christensen
11-13-2008, 11:40 AM
Any objections to Gus O'Connors? I'm in the mood for Irish. Otherwise, Paul, just pick something.
Ron Carter
11-13-2008, 02:40 PM
Milo, Gus's was a toss up with Rocky's in my mind but someone had to go first. Are we the only two still standing? I'm planning on coming back at least as far as Lansing Saturday night. Be happy to pick you up if you wish.
Cell is 231-645 9282 if you want to talk directly.

I've convinced Marilyn to come as well. She's a little sceptical of WBF folks, although she had a good time the several other times we've had a Michigan EBS.
Thanks, Ron, but Marilyn and I are going to make a day of it and Go Shopping. Some place called The Great Indoors, which is like huge and filled with decorating stuff no self respecting guy would have in the house if he was single.
