Sorry, Adam. Don't know how I missed your comment on that pic I sent to Scuttlebutt. The rest of the story?? Well, you asked for it.

The season was coming to a sad end and I asked Margaret to take a bunch of pictures as I sailed around the harbor and a bit offshore for the afternoon. She drove around the peninsula catching views from here and there. She's nothing if not diligent and took 120! Digital is wonderful, isn't it?

Here's another taken just after leaving the mooring. I'm wearing the orange WB hat I won a few years ago in a contest on Matt Murphy's Rudderposts blog http://wbeditor.typepad.com/rudderpost/2008/07/index.html :

At the mooring at sunset, The flag at the top of the mast is the same as my avatar here. It should fly from the starboard spreader and next year it will when I design the 'new yacht club flag' for the masthead (stay tuned) :

In the slings- at the beginning of the season. I've got to rig up some kind of arrangement for drying out against my cousin's pier for a summer scrubdown. Some kind of keel pad/cradle and fender for the pilings. The bottom paint gets a bit slimy by September.
Or maybe I'll spring for one of these and offer bottom cleaning services to yachts and racers stopping by the harbor. Can always use some cash. http://www.boatersworld.com/product/478551088.htm :

And finally during the winter I made this 20" half model for over the door in my office. It keeps me going during the 'dark months'. I carved it by eye from a single block of basswood and am generally pleased how it came out. The forefoot is too deep:

I'll have to add a microballoon double-chin to the real boat I guess. :D

... sunset shot....

When I removed the sails for the season I found that there was an open slice in the jib window. I've never liked windows in sails so this may be an excuse to get a replacement. I've since heard that the North sails loft in RI may have a line on some used racers' jibs. They upgrade pretty regularly so we'll see if a bargain's to be had.

You should be in Camden with that sail number.

Hope your winter is going well.

Yup, thanks Dave, that class of boat is maybe just too perfect.

236... Haha!
I never made the connection to the Camden/Rockport telephone exchange. My number there was 236-3705. Forty years ago now. My goodness.

Yes, the winter is going well. I had the shop to myself all day today while the rest of the crew took a day off. Most of them live an hour or so away while it's ten minutes from the house for me.

It was pleasant to work on three different boats at once without interruption or coordinating movements and sharing shop tools with others: prepping something here, setting some epoxy there, moving over to the galley on another boat, the coamings on a third and around and around. WCLZ on the radio, which the guys call 'that whiny lesbian station'. Just had to be careful using power tools on my own.

Sorry to hear about your mother. Hope your daughter is well.
