Another mystery. This one came in to the Herreshoff Registry as a possible sister ship to Rogue (Onagh or Radiant), a Herreshoff 21 Foot Class – until we saw the pics – and is very doubtful as a Herreshoff – See raised deck config. The dimensions also don’t quite fit.
The owner did think she raced in the 1920’s as a R- Class, and some of these 21 footers later on may have raced as R’s in “club races” (with time allowance) as the dimensions under the rule puts them right between S’s and R’s. But it’s doubtful this one was an R.
She has quite a racing record according to her owner - Her earliest known name was Green Parrot (early1900"s / the Chicago Yacht Club), later known by 1959 as SWANEE and was fiber glassed and took 3rd place queens cup race in Lake Michigan at Muskegon yacht club. In the early 1970's raced as THE RAVEN and won first place from Muskegon to Saugatuck in her class.
The current owner has his work cut out as she seems in pretty bad shape. If anyone recognizes her, or knows anything about her, let me know and I’ll pass on the info….
