View Full Version : 2 layers, 2 epoxy brands?

I'm double-glassing a plywood boat, and finished
wetting-out the 1st fiberglass layer with the last
of my System3 epoxy. I've got plenty of MAS
epoxy; should I expect a problem adding a second
layer of glass (and filling the weave) using a
different brand from the 1st layer?

I guess I would not expect a problem applying one
brand to a fully-cured, sanded and rinsed boat;
but I wonder if there might be a problem
applying the 2nd glass as soon as the 1st is
(mostly) tack-free.

I am not sure on the compatibility issue, though why not apply both layers at the same time (assumeing the are both thin enough to do that). I have applied 2 layers of 6 oz with no problems, just takes a bit more epoxy, but the bond is better.
Just a thought. smile.gif

Gut feeling on the compatibility, if the first layer is cured and sanded, I think there wouldn't be a problem.

If each was thoroughly mixed, one mixture should stick fine to another. If one is cured, and it does blush OR the msds for it says it has benzyl alcohol or benzyl butyl phthalate or other diluents/plasticizers that do not come to mind, you better sand it.
