Rechristen a repaired boat?

Hi all,

Is a boat only rechristened when its name is changed?

Would there ever be a case for rechristening a boat and not changing its name?

I've never heard of it done. AFAIK, rechristening is only when you change the name of a vessel, not done when it is put back in service after a long refit or decommissioning.

My 2 cents only, open to correction?

Nevertheless an opportunity for a party and champagne (or Pussers rum) should never be missed.

Assuming you are talking about the classic break-the-bottle-on-the-bow ceremony, it's just my opinion, but I think that boats, like people, should be christened just once. Re-launchings need much less ceremony. If the name was changed, you might have a case, but not otherwise.

Right-o. BUT, as Skuthorp so correctly pointed out, NO opportunity for a party should EVER be passed up, so have a non-christening party for it, instead! (If it's a power boat, trim 1/8" off the exhaust and call it a Bris!)
