...had to give up in her quest to cross the Pacific, because of trouble with the kite attachment to the deck, and a complete loss of solar-cell power. She was picked up by a container ship, and the lovely little sailboat was abandoned. Sad. See:

Bummer, I had posted on her earlier when she took off. Sounds like she is in good spirits though. From what I've read about on her earlier adventures I'm sure she waited till the last to call it quits. I'll bet she tries it again.

Thanks ... I hadn't heard about this before. Sorry to hear she didn't make it, but given her spirit and history, she'll be back.

That's quite an interesting little boat ... kites aside, it's WOODEN underneath that garish paint. It's strip-planked in red cedar, with an epoxy coating.

If you click "history" at the bottom, you can read a little about her earlier challenges. Click on the 2004 challenge (a row across the north Atlantic) and then "photos," and you'll see some great shots of one of her rowboats, including a couple of construction shots. Pretty amazing work -- given the complex curves, you'd never know that it was strip-planked once they're done.

Boats, kits, and she's cute too. Well, that's cool.
