Please share what you find out. Have you seen Wm. Garden's Eel? In the WB store.

Cheers,
Clint

Hey Clint,
Quite a few Garden Eels out on this side of the world. Garden says they can be built lapstrake, but all the ones I've seen looked to be strip or cold-molded. My first impression years ago seeing my first one was that it's a lot of boat for only 18 feet.

There's a very nice article in Boat Design Quarterly #8 (http://www.woodenboatstore.com/Boat-Design-Quarterly-Vol-8/productinfo/197-008/). It's on the cover. BDQ can be purchased through our hosts.

A most elegant boat! Unlike Eel, the centerboard trunk doesn't intrude into the interior and the rudder will survive a grounding.

There's also a 22'6" version.

I saw an Eel in the Portland area once that was lapstrake. It was definitely prettier than the smooth-skinned strip-planked ones I have seen.

I don't like the Eel's rudder arrangement very much. Other than that, they're sexy!

have emailed tony for cataloque or study plans or plans
have bought the design quarterly delivery to oz could take a while
and checked out garden,s eel which looks alot similier
but i do love the look of the old seabird an tony,s design being trailable and possibly lapstrake which i have had some experience with might be a better choise.

fish948, if you don't have any luck with that design you might want to look at Bolger's NORD KOSTER - http://www.boatbldr.com/html/boats/koster.html. She was also featured in BDQ - issue No. 23. The boats is a bit smaller than the BEACH POINT 18 so it may not suit.

Harrier that Tony did for me is a higher performance development of the Beach Point 18. Nice article about the boat in the new Small Boats published by WB.
