I've just been down to inspect Bali Hai II with a friend who is intrested in buying her and thought some here may be interested in a few pics of her.

She is a lovely vessel built by Noman Wright and Sons in Bulimba Queensland in 1963 of Australian Spotted Gum, 25m (83'2") LOA and 5.6m beam. Powered by Gardner 6LXB 90kw engines.

She may be known to some here on the forum, she has been radio relay vessel in 5 Sydney Hobart races and 4 Sydney Mooloolaba races and has had quite a host of politicians and celebrities on her over the years. When she was launched in 1964 she was Australias largest privately owned motor yacht.

A bit of a sad tale to tell though: I've known the vessel and owner for a few years having chartered her for some guests when I was on Hayman Island (she was in commercial survey then). The owner, a very pleasant guy, did a very nice refit in 2004/5 and has sunk quite a lot of money into her, however, unfortunately, just before Christmas he seems to have decided that life was not as it should be and he is no longer with us.

She had been for sale for a while but, as a result of the owners passing she is now for sale at a very reduced price and has attracted quite a bit of attention, including from my mate (who was also an acquaintance of the owner.)

So I've just spent the afternoon crawling through bilges, engine room, equipment, commercial survey requirements etc to get a bit of an idea of what shape she is in to see if it is worth taking an interest in buying any further and getting a more thorough hull and equipment survey commissioned.

Anyway, here are some pic's:

Not these guys mate, it's now become a mortgagee sale so they just want rid of it, hence the vultures are gathering......

A lovely vessel Larks , a feast for the these cold and snow bound eyes , and much heart ache for many after the owner lost hope.
I'm sorry to hear of his decision as are many who read this.
It looks to my eye like it may be a Bill Garden design , can you fill us in on that?
Ian

Hi Ian, I'm told by the broker that the builder was the designer, Norman Wright.
