Photos from the 2008 centennial jubilee this past summer. Lots of wood. One of my favorites is on page three photo 8. I wonder what happened next.

We seem to have a woody (6mt?) on starboard tack, close hauled, trying to avoid a T-bone by more modern boat on a dead run. The extreme helm angle on the woody I hope resulted in a scrape rather than a crunch. Brilliant pix.

These are all square meters, I think from photos before and after that they're 30's. Many are original but some are newer plastic creations. There must have been a collision but didn't see an 'after' photo. The reflection seen in the woody's hull shows no breathing room left.

Someone needs to be paying more attention to the sails. She couldn't avoid the contact like that. Looks like it was just a love tap anyway.

In the photo that Gert posted, on the white boat see who's got their hand on the tiller? oh boy.

I talked to a friend who was there and he said that only one collision was reported and they were both plastic 30 squares.

The answer is that no one had their hand on the tiller of the white boat.

Has the white boat just broached and gybed?

Looks almost like a post-race reasontodrinkbeer event. Maryann has a furled headsail and kite in the hatch, the white boat looks like they have a headsail sheet stuck judging from the pressure on the sail. They'll swing to port if that's the case. This would be a good reason to email Allan Forberg to find out who won the fight.

I just realized what the title of this thread inferred. Ridiculous. No such thing as time wasted when it comes to the square metre rule boats.

That's like saying time spent listening to Mozart is a waste of time. I go to the 30 square site every single day just to look. Never fails but to make me feel a little better about the human race.

I didn't mean it as a time waster, literally, but I too can spend a lot of time on sites like this. As we were getting closer to Sonja's launch I used to bring the skota photo sites up and show my wife. http://www.skota.be/photo/100ySK/ It went a long way toward getting 'approval'.

Rich,
Do you have any photos of the cabin ? Perhaps taken from the companionway? very hard to tell whats down below...could be simply a bit more than a crawl space, but I think I detect some head room down there..... any pics?
Thanks

As an aside, the genoa in the foreground of that last photo is from WB Sails in Helsinki. I have some Dragon sails they made and I recommend them as both being very easy to deal with and for the quality of their work. Very reasonably priced compared to Fritz, Hoj-Jensen, or North, the other major European sailmakers in the Dragon class.

I don't have any photos, but here's a link to some photos of a newer production boat. No standing headroom that I know of. The older boats are like dark caves with their own secrets. http://www.zarins.se/sittbrunn.htm

Its gotta be extremly rare to see so many boats in as mesmorizing condition, in one place, celebrating 100 years of history for their class.

Hi All,
I received an answer from the photographer as to how to purchase a photo or a canvas from him regarding these beautiful boats. If anyone would like information on this subject, simply send me a PM and I will forward it to you ..I am not connected with the photographer in any way, I am simply stunned at the beauty of these boats ....

P.S. I was gonna say "not affiliated " but I have had a couple of glasses of wine tonight and I am not sure that I can spell affiliated
