Picture taken from Skyline Drive.

Across the bay are seven glaciers that never melt. This one is Grewink glacier.

You see the little part of the "air port" landing strip peaking through the top of the trees on the bottom of the picture. (ab 2" from left corner of the pix)

In the area of the picture, the bay is 10 miles wide...

Based on oceanographic studies, the Bay may be one of the most biologically productive ecosystems in the world.

Check the links, the bottom one has interesting info about the bay...

Beautiful, I was in that area in 1994.We opted to skip the Kenai penninsula though and drove down to Seward to camp. We could only spare one night in the southern coast . I could tell there was alot to see but we didn't have enough time. Maybe next trip.

Sorry you didn't make it to K-Bay, but Seward is nice also...but not as majestic and vast in panorama as K-Bay...

The dark peak looking like a chocolate drop is what the Old Timers called "Potato Peak".

It got it's name because it gave you a sign... When you got the first dusting of snow on it, the Old Timers knew it was time to dig up their potatoes, as the snow would soon be on our side of the bay...

The New Comers call it Chocolate Drop and I bet they don't know the story...

I was working sockeye escapement on the Kasilof River and stream surveys on Lake Tustumena. Stream surveys entailed walking up small rivers choked with spawning salmon and chasing the bears away so we could document the level of bear predation on the stock. A very tense job, but no bears were shot, and no team members eaten.

The beauty of the area is so overwhelming that even after living there all the years, it takes my breath away over and over again...
