Perhaps this is old news:

On SA the other day they were saying that Etap is closing down and that Eric Goetz has laid off his entire workforce. Just the beginning, in all probability. Things do look rather bleak. Then again, maybe yards where they restore and maintain what we've already got will do o.k., since in most cases you are not dealing with financing work like that?

I was listening to BBC this morning and this guy asked a good question: who decides who makes it and who doesn't? How do they decide that? Why do they decide that? Tough times.

Has Dehler done it again?

I can't remember any discussion about the quality of their boats which have a reputation for being fast but strong because of good design and good production. Pretty successful cruiser-racers. As far as I know, they do not shy away from using expensive materials and techniques where it matters to get the necessary strength at low weight.

But as long as I can remember, they have been in financial trouble every few years. I guess they are good at it by now and know how to handle a crisis ;-)

I know someone with a Dehler 31. I've sailed on her. This boat is indeed quite fast. It's built like a racer but with some cruising accomodations. For the most part it looked like it was built to high standards.

Dehler used to build small boats of the quarter-ton size that WERE very good racers. There were two of them on the Gulf Coast and they did quite well.
