You'd need an Otter Case or something similar to keep the device dry...

Just got an iPhone and lovin' it, so I'm also interested -- but not enough to drop the $80 or so...

Bump to ask about the Navionics S.p.A iPhone app - Marine: US West.

Anyone using it? For $5 it looks hard to beat. From what I can see it has good info on coastal areas, data gets a bit less specific out in the CA Delta.

Also, my iPhone 3G rapidly runs out of battery power (an hour or so) when using any of the GPS programs. From what I can find online, the Just Mobile Gum Pro external battery / recharger looks to be the best value for the most electrical storage, with 4400 mAh of power and 1000mA of output -
