No affiliation with the boat, just thought someone might like to see.

Did something happen to the transom? Looks like it's been cut down, maybe to make room for a dingy?

Also looks like they cleared it out for the photos. So often, you see photos of boats in this situation still full of "stuff."

It looks like a late 1960's or early 1970's dickerson 36 - the 36 had the clipper bow. The 36 was built with a f'glass hull , with wood deck & cabin top after about 1972. Prior to that they were all wood - Edged glued and nailed Mahoghany on oak ribs. Makes for a very watertight hull with few problems. Odd that the stern was "lowered" - can't imagine why. But, all in all, Dickerson makes a great boat - this one is probably a decent little project 'cause the insides look clean/neat and the rigging is all in place. All chainplates / turnbuckles are bronze and last forever, and the rig is lowly stressed. Easy to fix and fun to sail. 4-108's are usually the engine found in these - lots of those around for short $$ & the tanks are usually monel. This would be a reasonably simple project to restore to orig. design since its edge glued mahoghany & plywood decks. Be a shame to see it go to the breakers. A heck of a lot more fun to fix than all "glass. Bet they would take short $ just to get something out of it - like free and a commitment to store for the 6-9 months it would take to finish......

There was one 36 built in wood. It was the one they made for the mold. I used to know its whereabouts but have lost track of it. Somebody definitly went after the stern area for same reason. We used to have a 1967 35 ft. aft cockpit ketch. She was the last one built in Cambridge before Dickerson moved to Trappe. Ours had the Westerbeak version of the 4107 diesel in it.

There is a wood Dickerson here in Maine that I've had a look at. Up in Bath, very nice boat. Might just be that 36.

the dickerson in bath maine - by chance is that boat a lovely shade of green with bright finished cabin sides? if so i think it's Guinivere, a 1965 dickerson 35. very nice!

I think that's it. It belongs to my nephew's friend's parents. I just saw it once in its winter shed.

There is a 35 foot wood dickerson Next to my ketch in Galena, Md. Actually one of the earlier boats I worked on was a 32 foot dickerson ketch with wishbone planking on the bottom an an atomic 4... Ever see one of them? I never saw another one!

Thad, Do you know the name of the Dickerson next to you. I used to belong to the Dickerson Assoc. and back then I knew most of the local boats/owners.

BTE did you ever make it to Rock Hall this summer? We never heard from you.

Yeah, I was in Rock hall for a while in July, and It was a break-the-crap-on-the-boat marathon. I lost a lot to West Marine that week! Christen and I really weren't feeling sociable!

We will be there in April though. we are taking a week cruise on the bay this spring, maybe finding some wind. I'll let you know. Actually, I'll be down in a few weeks by car to check on my friends house outside of rock hall too.

The 32 Dickerson that I worked on was Church mouse, and the last I heard, it never got finished and is still sitting by the owners garage in Green lane, Pa. Its a shame too. Although the boat was an ugly red color, it was a nice looking boat.

The 35 next to me at Gregg Neck I am not sure. I'll see if I can't get in a dinghy this weekend and row around to her transom. Its owner by a first time boat owner and still has the varnished spruce spars.

Let me know if you get here. I can usually arrange for a free place in the harbor to park the boat.

Oh cool, we found the free place behind waterman's but I don't really like those docks.

There is no elec. on Watermans Docks, we got a better place, plus its within 100 ft. of a bar/resturant. Plus a bunch of old wood boats there to look at.

Didn't I see your boat behind the Harbor Shack? I love their coffee encrusted ribeye steak when I am feeling wealthy!

PS Dale, do you know of any of the other 32 crossplanked dickersons? I have never seen any other dickerson with the cross planked bottom either!

Thad, Yes both of our boats were at the dock behind Harbor Shack, our S&S sloop, Radiance and our deadrise built power boat, Bumps.

I know of a couple of 32 ft. Dickersons. They were hard chine built, os being a Chesapeake Bay Built boat I would assume the were somewhat cross planed on the bottom, wishbone maybe. One spent most of the winter here last winter at the county bulkhead due to a dead Atomic 4 engine. Eventually the guy rebuilt it and took off for who knows where. He was offering it for free to anybody who would take it during January. No takers

Dale, couldn't row around the transom due to ice, but, hanging over the dock I could see that the 35 Dickerson next to me had a name that started with "C-" I couldn't make out the rest.

Dale,
If you are in rock hall, I'm pretty sure there is a fellow down there that has decided to break-up a 1965 Dickerson "woodie" and is looking for a good home for masts/rigging engine & such. Any ideas as to who might need? the masts are "metalmast" & the engine is 4-107 with a couple hurth trannies.

Boatsnh, Do you have any idea where the boat is or how to contact the owner?

Hi Dale,
The Dickerson owner Iis John Carey - he lives in in Rock Hall, MD. (410) 639-7506 . You can also e-mail him @johncarey@atlanticbb.net. I know he has a new 3 blade prop for the 4-108 engine & a fair amount of "stuff". This is a repair/refit job that got to the point it was not worth saving the boat; I'm sure he would like to hear from you if you have any ideas.

Swan Point Marina is in Sneads Ferry, NC, for those who want to know - just up US 17 from Wilmington, NC. Not a bad yard to work in, but not so sweet for launching if you have much draught. New owner there, been working on boats for a long time. I'm sure Paul will dicker ...
