Hi wooden boat people just like to say I love reading the threads its like an encyclopedia of great tips.
Now the question, I am repairing 26 foot mahogany strip on light oak frame racing sloop built in 1967 in Littlehampton she has been out of the wet for over 10 years and the dead wood is looking a bit flakey in places. I keep her wet inside with several inches of salted water and there is seepage as you can imagine. I suspect I will need to replace some or maybe all the deadwood section once I have jacked her up and freed the keel bolts etc. What I would like to know is more about dead wood really what is it where does one get it and any other tips you think may be relavent as I know little on this dark art and find information quite hard to come by. Thanks in advance.:p

Deadwood can be any type of wood, it's just the part of the hull not covered with planking.
Preferably a strong rot resistant wood.

For a good example, Jim Leger's thread is building the deadwood for his new catboat as we speak (or write, as the case may be).

Ahh the mystery solved I was thinking this was a wood that had been some how specially treated or seasoned ,or the sinking type wood you put in fish tanks but now I know that helps thanks guys.

Welcome to the forum SS. Now that you're here you'd better introduce yourself properly and show us some pics of your sloop:).
cheers

Sure thing Larks Im Andy by name and I have no pics that I can post up right now and at the moment she is covered with tarp under 8 inches of snow. I guess I will get out when the weather picks up in spring and get some work done and take a few shots then. I bought her from ebay for a song and towed her home 60 miles to work on in the garden over the next couple of years as there is some rot and the internals are all out but I would probably refit and need to get another engine anyway.
