Afternoon all,

I took this shot in Rockland, ME a few years back but have forgotten the name of the vessel. I have probably posted the picture before and I am pretty sure folks here knew her name.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

John

She is the recently built replica of "Atlantic," which set the transatlantic sailing speed record which still stands, I believe, at least for monohulls.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I knew I could count on the team!

In my minds eye now I can see Adix on her transom as we sailed past her.

I appreciate the assistance. Bob that link for Atlantic was interesting, thanks for providing that.

Best Regards, John

Adix when she was owned by Alan Bond and called XXXX back in the '80's or early '90's

It was an amazing sight seeing her smoking out of the rainsqualls in 40 knots of wind. We were reefed right down and very wet that day.

She was built by a South American guy, he was besoted by the Nicholsons secretary Jessica Norma (she was pretty), they were in the store looking at Scrimshaw one day, Norma was vacillating, so he bought the entire stock.
He owned the first replica of America and when they were racing to Guadoloupe, they were passed by a schooner called Antares crewed only by a South African truck driver who had designed and built her, moulding the steel plates by digging a hole in his gravel pit and driving trucks over them, and his French girlfriend, who was naked.

Carlos immediately hired the Yarpy to design him a faster schooner, which became Jessica, the designer was unfortunately killed by a snow plough before the boat was built. I can't remember his name, apparently a "bloke's bloke".

Damn... got me on that one! I'd have bet money on Atlantic, but I'd forgotten about Adix, which came through the Bay here some years back. They sure do look the same, though.

LOL -- had to tell the wife what I was laughing about. Great story!

Has she been re-rigged? I remember her with square topsails.
