Four men appeared to have gone missing in their 21' motorboat off of Florida yesterday, hope they are surviving the 14 foot seas, and make it home.

Unfortunately it sounds like GPS assisted lack of navigation skills that got them into this. Still, I hope they get back safely.

14 foot seas???
The report on the TV said 4 ft.. and the view out over the Gulf sure looked like closer to 4 than 14
They were out in a small boat, MORONS
Cooper, 26, and the three other men left shore in a 21-foot, single-engine boat Saturday at 6:30 a.m. EST for an all-day fishing trip. They were expected back Saturday night but failed to return.

One found, clinging to the boat. Other three still being searched for. The boat was anchored and flipped? Really big anchor, no scope?

No life jackets?! Foolish.

At the risk of sounding callouse, it seems we have a classic case of too much water, not enough boat.

No life jacket..? Sounds like not enough sense.

Latest 'report' is that the other men were wearing life jackets, and that the boat was flipped while at anchor.
I think the coast guard person weight is about 170 pounds. So the boat may have been rated for 4 people, but although I fit well under the coast guard weight, most people don't. would imagine it's especially true with football players.
All the preceding is pure conjecture on my part.

Not to try to triple-guess this particular situation, but what is the best option for a small powerboat in heavy seas like these -- motoring slowing into the waves, rigging a drogue from the bow, or ?? Sounds like anchoring wasn't the way to go...
...my few experiences have been a 21' sailboat, either running with the waves under sail or directly into the waves under power.

Accuweather has article on the missing fishermen, and also has Graphs depicting wave heights, etc for locale, 14 foot waves were recorded by a wave bouy!

One fellow, with pfd was found today Monday on top of the overturned hull. He said the boat flipped over when anchored. The others were separated from the boat and have not been found.

I rescued a guy off an upturned , anchored tin boat once. It was autumn, late afternoon and overcast...he was blue.

I sure hope they find the otehr guys, but the report I saw said they where 35 miles off the coast. That is a mighty long way in such a tiny boat.
