A lovely classic Workboat that attracted my interest was the Riawe built in 1912 and lovingly owned and cared for now by Linda and Lindon Haigh.

Great story Rufus.

I love the look of her with the sail and no wheelhouse

There were dozens of timber or wooden fishing boats in the docks during the festival, some taking part, and some that use the docks as their home port.

A fishing boat with sailing rig.

Note that a cabin has been built where there would normally be a wet well on these boats.

In Straughn, I came across this old Cray boat.

Talking to a bloke who was putting a new bottom on an alloy plate workboat in a nearby shed, I discovered she was owned by a retiree who had been restoring her until his health deteriorated.

The boat had sunk at its mooring and had only been refloated the week before.

Nice thread.
Another very old fishing boat is the 'Viking' built, I think, about 1893. Built as a 'cutter yacht', there are photos of her in the yacht club racing, later had a wheelhouse fitted & a Ford 80hp motor and worked on the South and West coasts as a cray boat. I did about 12 or 15 trips on her in the late 70s. The owner who had her then has retired, I know, and I wonder if he's let her registration lapse. She was about 40 ft x 9ft x6 ft, and rolled a bit in those big swells you get on the west coast, but she liked to surf coming home across the south coast, though that made the skipper a bit nervous.
I'll have to see if I can find a photo of her.

Some more photos from Straughn showing the cray boat and some old hulks that looked to me like old coal or gravel barges.

Just quietly rotting into the harbour.

Rufus,

The boat info you listed in post #5 of this thread was returned to its owners on the very day I was born, August 29, 1944. I had nothing to do with that however.

She is waiting patiently for us as we ended up in Satun, Thailand,
