Yep, Tuesday...

Barry, Steve and I skived off in Steve's boat - a 4.5m tinnie with a 60hp Mercury 4 stroke on it. We launched at Woolwich, skipped into the Fish Markets and picked up some fresh squid and headed out for North Head. Steve got 2 strikes here, but no result.... other than a bitten off lure.

This is the same spot, looking up at North Head. One of the gun emplacements is visible - they started building these sorts of things as defences against the Spanish, then the Russians were a worry in the 1850's and so on...

These huts are still occupied - they are old fishernen's shacks on Dobroyd Head - occupied by squatters who I think are tolerated in the National Park only so long as there is continuous occupancy.

Bazza scored this nice Yellowtail Kingish about 100 metres along from the shacks - right in front of one of the nudist beaches....

We choofed off to Sow and Pigs Reef for a while and donated some hooks to the bottom of the harbour then had a bit of a fish around one of the Wedding Cakes - then headed for home...

This thing has been around for a while - Southern Cloud.

Not far from there, just west of the Harbour Bridge is the yard where Grantala was built in 1937.

A rather pleasant day on the Harbour. Saw some nice woodies too.

Is yellowtail =Kingfish? Our limit is 750mm long for those here now. Used to be 600. I had one come up under the dinghy and hang around scratching its back on Waione that was 5 ft long once. Bloody thing had the girth of a big tuna.
Here's a rat kingy following a hooked snapper up at christmas..

Yep - same fish John.

The limit here is 650mm. Bazza's was legal by a good few cm - he's got a big curve in him in that photo and Baz has his tail...

Last time I went after them, I caught 5 (and they are a tiring fish to catch) - and had to throw 3 of them back. Still, the other 2 filled the barbie plate.

Just back from a follow-up day on the Hawkesbury. Not a bite.... from a fish perspective, worst day ever, but a lovely day on the water. Trolled around Lion Island a couple of times - didn't even jag a penguin, back to Juno to join the four boats that were there on our way out, nothing... off to the Hawkesbury Marina for lunch then out to the hole under the rail bridge... I got one minor nibble - and we spotted a 2' Mullaway chasing a school of choppers on the surface about 30' from us - but he wasn't interested in what we had. There's no truth in the rumour that we tied up to the bridge - or even that I ate an oyster off the bridge...

Still, the day was a pearler - mid 20's (C), slightest breeze, not a cloud in a bright blue sky...

It is a beautiful coastline - what a pity they buggered it up by putting a city on it!

If you have to live in a city, it isn't a bad one to live in though eh?

There's been some terrific catches of monster Bluefin Tuna around Portland lately. Best season in years, even my local area is getting big fish, snapper and whiting and the usual elephant shark.
