View Full Version : Tally Ho & Firewood IV

Hey folks!

Spring is almost here, and it is time for the spring visit to Shirl and Tally Ho.

The WBF has really stepped up in the past and I come to you hat in hand (as usual) begging for volunteers again. According to Shirl, we probably won't need to fell any trees, as there is plenty still on the ground from the fall to be cut up and split.

The Official WBF Wood Stacking Executive Committee has arbitrarily decided on Saturday, April 11, with a rain date of Sunday April 12. In the event the whole weekend is a washout, we will reschedule for a later date.

Any and all volunteers would be greatly appreciated. As in the past, I have been drafted to serve as the unofficial volunteer coordinator. Please feel free to contact me via PM or email.

For past wood gatherings, please see:

Saturday, April 11th should be fine weather. I plan to be at Tally Ho.
Been a rough winter for many and looking forward to seeing you all again.

Can we count on a large New England contingent as well as an international flare?

How many loaves of home-made bread would it take to feed the wrecking crew?

I'm much too far away but fresh bread should travel OK by UPS, dontcha think?

elf
04-02-2009, 06:16 PM
maybe 5 or 6 loaves. UPS would undoubtedly take good care of the bread from Savannah at this time of year.

Sounds doable, Elf. I'll get the ingredients and a plan together so I can get the stuff shipped off in time for the event. I'll need an address, though...either Shirl's or someone in the area who will be there.

I've only been baking bread for a few months but so far I've had success with several types. I'll be sure to send an assortment--French, Bahamian White with cranberries and nuts, ciabatta, cheese bread....

I came on the WBF too late to get to know Ken very well but his Tally Ho story was well documented. It's a crying shame that he couldn't stick around a little longer. Not so much for us but for Shirl and his project. :(

What a nifty idea. Shirl would get a big laugh, I bet, if she looked out her kitchen window and saw that!

the head count is Bill's project, I suspect.

I was hoping to get at least two pieces for a sandwich.

Thats great, I had picked up two loafs of commercial bread just in case UPS got lost. OK for the birds if we don't need it.

Ham, roast turkey, bunch of cheeses, roast beef, egg salad rolls, seafood salad and tuna salad rolls, potato salad, greens, etc. Double batch of Hot Boston Baked Beans are in the pot on a slow roast.

The rain held off and we got a lot done on the mountaintop.

The driveway filled up fast:

The old Kubota. Man, she's done a lot of work in her day:

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r241/bauerdad/2009%20pics/IMG_0712.jpg?t=1239511533

Sorting out all the boat gear. Ken certainly collected lots of boat gear:

Ken's model of Tally Ho, the pic doesn't really show the size. The model is 1" to 1' so the sparred length of the model is over 5 feet!

Again I come back to say:
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
I will be toasty warm this winter.
I really appreciate the work and expertise in sorting, identifying, cataloging and boxing all those boat parts. Even though I had seen it all come in at one time or another, I was astounded at what Ken had collected for TALLY HO.

To Margo, Abe and Leta a thank you for helping in the food department. Making and supplying enough to feed both hungry crews!! And I will not forget MiddleAgesMan-- What delicious bread. All kinds!! And heated up it smelled and tasted like fresh out of the oven. Not a crumb was left!!

Now Wild Dingo: you noticed the pile Bill and Jim are sitting on and a couple of other piles in other photos? Well they left them just for you. Didn't want you to feel left out so they are there for you to rack.

Again thanks to all. After a hard winter, a day like Saturday makes one feel very blessed. I know the Captain is watching and would say the same.

Gotta agree with Emily here. Perhaps the best part of the day is walking into that cool barn and chatting with people whom you don't have to explain your irrational love of wooden boats to. And of course, a quiet moment communing with Tally Ho.

It felt like Ken was sitting there smiling. Thanks to all!

Oh yeah, great Middle Ages bread!
