Hi everyone,
Thanks Kevin for the message. I am still playing around with finger lakes boats. Just finished a week long show at our local shopping mall. The show was the first show of the season for the Finger Lakes Boating Museum (flbm.org if anyone intrested). The museum's show theme this year is backyard boats. Their goal is to get the guys out there that are building and / or restoring boats without taking them to a 'profesional'. Should be an interesting season for them. Check out their website one of the members Ed Wightman is putting together a class to take 5 groups and have them each build a 12' Bevin Skiff. The class will meet for four saturdays and when you finish each group will have a boat to take home. Cost of the class is $675 per group. It will be interesting to see if there is enough intrest here in the finger lakes to fill the class.
As for me, the old guys that remember me I am doing well, everything under control and I can function again. Even did a boat last summer. I rebuilt a '58 Cortland built Thompson sea coaster that was in a building that colasped. The boat took a hard hit to the bow. Had to replace two ribs, three strakes of planking on one side, the front deck and the winshield wood work. While I was at it I went thru the interior with new varnish, gave the outside a new white paint job, and sandblasted and repainted the trailer. Even had the local graphics place make a pair of 'Holsclaw' decals for the trailer. Will take a couple photos when the weather warms up. This summer I plan on going thru my '65 Penn Yan Explorer which needs 12 ribs, new decks, and the interior reinstalled. Interior parts are done, I did them in the basement shop over the winter. I work outside in a large tent so I don't do much outside in the winter. Still very active in my other hobby, ham radio. Still find it fun to talk all over the world with a piece of wire for an antenna.
If some one logs in and has a question about a finger lakes boat like Penn Yan that I may be able to help with feel free to have them message me thru the forum or they can send me an email at csanti@stny.rr.com. Thanks again Kevin for remembering me. I try to stop by more often.
