Need alot of help, but still want to use my plans, and with some help
from you guys, then maybe i can build a boat, this is the plan i got
so far,now can you tell me where i have gone wrong or am i,
on the right track so far, so please rip my plan apart and
help me get it right. Thanks for any help you can give.
kim

Here is what i got 12 pcs of 2x6x16 feet, 4 pcs 2x6x12 feet,
2 pcs 2x4x16 feet, 15 pcs 2x4x8 feet, 2 pcs 1x8x10 feet,
10 pcs 1x3x8 feet, all very straight and kiln dryed to 16-18 %, all spruce.

This is what i would like to do, build a boat 15-16 feet long and 6 feet wide at floor
and out to 7 feet at top of sides its called the beam i think, the sides will be 33 inches high,
with a shallow vee bottom, outside to center drop of 2 inches,
it will be a powered by a 18 hp johnson outboard with a full back seat and a full center seat,
and the front will be a 4-5 foot casting deck, with a round v front.
i want to start to close the sides in at 8 feet i hope this will make the boards more easy to bend
into shape, and i saw a picture of a fishing boat with that shape and i liked the look,
then if i use a 2x6x16 for the center keel and 2x4x16 for the two outside keels,
and use 2x4 for floor and sides ribs, then cut 2x6x16 in half to give me two boards,
3/4 thick by 5 1/2 inch wide 16 feet long, and use then to cover the hull,
then cut 2x6x16 into 3 to give 3 boards of 3/8 thick by 5 1/2 wide 16 feet long,
for the sides, will put together with screws and epoxy, and cover the hull with
cloth and resin 4 inches above the water line, then use epoxy sealer on the rest of boat,
and on the inside also to keep the water out,i will paint the hull and the outsides,
would like to keep the wood look inside the boat,as you can see i never build a boat before,
but want to try,i have a big shop with heat, so i can build the boat inside, money is short so want to use,
the wood i got at home, will only have to buy screws, epoxy, cloth, sealer and paint,
i have a motor and a trailer but no boat.will use on the Ottawa river in Canada, for fishing mostly just me and my son.

Welcome to WBF..
I am quite confused about your plan.. Do yo have a pencil drawing of it?
By your configuration, sound like a V garvey

shallow V is good for in land or protected water
deep V best for off shore or deep lakes
Catamaran is more stable at rest.. Tunnel hulls are better..
Round or soft chine is good for rough water but not for stable fishing platform..
Flat is stable at rest, but it'll pound the fillin' outta your teeth while underway..

Good eye, Larry.

Except, with those 16' panels he might be better off with something like the smaller Phantom 15 (14' 6", and rated for lower HP motors, too, though the recommended 25HP is still a bit more than Kim is planning to use). That Phantom 16 calls for a 70HP motor.

What part of Western Quebec are you in, Kim? Maybe I'll see you out on the water, one of these days. :)

Since this is your first build, it might be wise to adapt an existing plan.

Hi, i live in Portage Du Fort, Quebec right on the Ottawa river about 60 miles from Ottawa, the pictures i sent are just for the shape, i don't want a console just two side to side seats like a rowboat with a casting deck,,stable fishing platform is what i'am looking for, can drop to 14 feet if you think my motor is to small, would the deep vee in the picture be as stable as the shallow vee, Thanks everyone.

Hi, i live in Portage Du Fort, Quebec right on the Ottawa river about 60 miles from Ottawa

I know it well. We do a lot of canoeing up that way, on the Coulonge, Noire and Dumoine (and pass right through Portage du Fort en route to the Petawawa.

Lots of wild water, up in your area. When you do build that boat, keep it clear of the rapids! :D

Kim,
even though you have some wood on hand to start off with, but you'll end up buying more to finish.. Always happened to me.. I under supplied myself every time..

Thanks for the link, that's the type of boat, but without the console,i just want to put in two seats and a casting deck up front.
And yes i had to go get more wood, and will have to make a few more trips, i'am going to use 3/4''x3 1/2'' to cover the hull and sides, that way i can just go buy them. If not to busy will start to build this week.
