Is there such a thing as a "cutter rigged sloop"?
It is mentioned, but not explained, in a book I am reading.
Thanks in advance.

You find them on singlehulled catamarans

isn't that the standard rigging on WWII U Boats?
It's to do with the mast placement. Pedantically the cutter has it's mast further aft than a sloop. So if the mast is where iit should be for a sloop, but the boat has a jib and and a staysail, then it might be described as such.
My guess, anyway

Awnswer - NO.
A cutter and a sloop are two different rigs.
The sloop has one headsail
unless going down wind with two forestays, and can use a staysail.
A cutter has the mast located 22% further aft and uses two head sails.
A knockabout is a sloop BUT does not have a bowsprit.

More properly, what you may be referring to is a double headsa'l sloop, not a true cutter, but rigged to allow a standard genoa and a splinter jib, although you would not normally fly both sails simultaneously.
