I've been searching the archives for hardwood suitable for rudder/centerboard. Searching has been frustrated by a continual "User Identification Failure" that prohibits me from searching through the threads. So, I'm going to ask folks their recommendations. So far the collective wisdom of the forum has said:
white oak
cherry
red oak
mahogany
I understand that Cherry, Red Oak and Mahogany glue up pretty well with epoxy, but White Oak does not so Resocrinol is recommended. If I go with white oak, where can I get a small quantity of resocrinol?

Dennis....I took Loon to one of Long Island's most respected (if grouchy) wooden boat yards last summer, and he did laminated sisters on a few cracked ribs, with KD white oak strips, glued with Resourcinal. he swore by it, and gave me years of history on it's use.
Boat's tight as a drum now. So far, I'm a believer.

Dennis,
I've not looked in awhile, but check Jamestown Distributors.
A tried and true option would be to drift them together. It works well and offers additional torsional strength, though the seams open when the pieces dry out.

GOOGLE knows how to find it in your neighborhood.
As for the searching threads problem, perhaps Scott can fix that for you. One "t" or two?

White Oak, to be glued with Resorcinol DEPENDABLY, must be heated.
Check with the manufacturer of the Resorcinol for gluing White Oak for exact temperatures and times. Here is a quote from the annals of the boards:
"Different adhesive manufacturers have various recommondations, pay close attention to them. The phenol resorcinol we use for gluing white oak requires a glue line temperature of 150 degrees F for six hours."
