This photo was posted here about 18 months ago. I'm giving it another go. Does anyone recognize this design?

She's 22 feet and carries about 230 feet of canvas. She looks a lot like an Indian in profile, and the rig looks very much like the original sail plan Sam Crocker drew for the Indian in 1921, but there are subtle differences. The biggest difference is the length of 22', compared to 21'2" for the Indian.

In plan view, the transom is narrower and more closely resembles the Mower X-Dory than the Indian. Also, the rudder and skeg are different than the 1940 Marconi redraw of the Indian.

I've heard that Crocker drew half a dozen versions of the Indian, and I'm thinking this design might be one of them. I'd really like to get my hands on the lines and offsets.

Hot damn, that is sweet. I wish I knew. My first thought was a larger version of Tweedledee/Tweedledum which are Mower's right?

I had to dig out my Dory Book to take another look at the Sea Chanty. JG says the original boats were designed and build by Chaisson, but when JG redrew the lines he drew upon his knowledge of other Chaisson dories as well as the Mower X-Dory.

What really struck me looking at the Sea Chanty was the similarity in the tiny details of JG's drawing and the picture I posted. I wonder if it's possible this design was drawn by JG? The mystery continues.

Very nice - I want one. Transom is broader than the Sea Chanty, and more upright. There's more rocker too, from what I can see. The deep skeg and rudder looks very sensible, though less suitable for trailering. It's like a more 'evolved' Sea Chanty. I'd love to see a body plan.

Larry, give me a clue here. I don't have that Gardner book but I have all the others, and I can look through parts of the book online. What is the design called? What page?

Geoff, thanks for that link. That gets me a little closer. I looked through pretty much the whole book and I didn't find the lines or offsets. I'm going to spend some more time there and hopefully come up with the name of the designer or builder. The original copyright was 1911, so that precedes the work done by Crocker on the Indian for the Alden firm.

It called Mower dory in this book http://www.shop4author.com/Images/Products/007142/797X.jpg http://www.amazon.ca/Building-Classic-Small-Craft-Instructions/dp/007142797X on page 498..

In "The Dory Book" http://www.toplicht.de/thumbs/tbn_9223008.JPG similar design called "One-Design Swampscott Sailing Dory" starting on page 189..
Both Mower dory and this Tweedledum-n-Tweedledee are 18' decked swampscott styled.. pretty close identical in off-sets and profiles..

Thanks Larry. Those dories are all a bit different from the one I'm talking about. Close, but not quite.

I jist notice something about the rudder being mounted under the transom.. <blushing>
So its not anything near, found in John Gardner's books...

Thats at the bottom of the page. I just thought it was funny.
Thanks for that link. I don't even know how to sail but it was interesting history, and informative too.
