Can anyone provide me with information on obtaining plans for the boat on the cover of the Wooden Boat Calandar 2009?

Thank you

Does it say what they are?

Not the prettiest of boats.

That looks like the boat for September. Follow the breadcrumbs.

IIRC the Apprenticeshop has plans for a Gil Smith cat boat on file and perhaps for sale: http://www.atlanticchallenge.com/boats/commissions.shtm

Those are Gil Smith catboats, and if Hwyl aka Gareth doesn't think they're pretty boats. . . . .well somebody oughta check his meds--the dosage is too high or something.

My shop partner Andy and I have been talking about using up the rest of our stash of 20-24' long clear fir for planking up a Gil Smith catboat of our very own. Nat Herreshoff used to snoop around Gil's shop, you know, looking for clues on why his boats were so fast.

This guy may have a lead on lines for a Gil Smith:

1977 Great South Bay 21’ catboat, 1977 fiberglass replica of a 1909 Gil Smith design, cuddy cabin, aluminum spars, trailer, currently stored inside, new rub rails, toe rails & cabin top fall of 2008. Fast & responsive. Asking $8500. Located Maine - 207-546-2927

Rooster posted here http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94374 too. Pretty thorough answer by Duncan.

If this is your definition of a nice boat, then "where the helm" did we go wrong.

That top picture just shows what you can expect when a racing boat with a ridiculously high SA/D ratio doesn't have as much moveable ballast aboard as it would like in a given wind. Those guys just need to either tuck in a reef or pick up a few more rail monkeys.

I repeat, if you don't think this boat is stunningly gorgeous, the problem lies with you.

Here's a thread showing a recent build of an early Gil Smith design...
