Anyone have any experience with Whisstock Boat Plans (England). Very interesting designs......particularly plan #123 (for mee). Interesting construction techniques (ie. ring frames). Lots of information on the site. 80+ years design and building experience (Sir Francis Chinchester's record breaker). AND.......VERY REASONABLE PLAN PRICES........in instant download, CD or conventional paper. Anyone building? What do you think?
Thanks for any input.

Every couple of years someone asks about those plans. To my knowledge only one person showed up briefly on this forum to say he had bought one made by someone else. Unfortunately he didn't stick around long enough to say much about it aside from the fact that he was in possession of it. Can't remember which of the designs it was.

I have paid five times the cost of these plans and received much less detailed information. For the $30-40 cost you probably won't go wrong. Their designs look very nice. I will leave it to someone with more experience to comment on their construction methods, materials and scantlings.

OK, if we are talking about the same guy, he now lives in the US. The family have a tradition in the east coast of UK.
A close friend built a 15ft gaff cutter daysailer from his design. There were some problems with the plans as Whisstock was moving with to the US at the time. The builder was left with an incomplete set, and had to finish the boat with his own ideas. Worked out OK, and they have recently talked with good results.

To add. If you look at the site, design no. 055 is the one built by my buddy. Lots of detail in the photos. He said he was very pleased with the plans as a first time builder and would use Whisstock again if he was thinking of another. Since the boat was a yawl and he wanted a cutter, the redesign was OK except for some lee helm. Moving the mast back a couple of inches has corrected that. As it is strip/veneered/ glassed, the hull is bullet proof.
As said, rarely mentioned here, any comments why?
