Came north this weekend hoping to find some signs of spring just to find more winter. Looks like at least another month til "ice out". Oh well, tried to make the most of it anyway.

Waiting for the dock to thaw. Losing that battle but Trego doesn't mind.

Guaranteed bug-free picnic.

Annual late winter hike to Sphunge Island. Cabin site was reclaimed by national park in the 70's. Numerous such sites are present here in Voyageurs National park. Many are converted into beautiful campsites or make great spots to stop for shore lunch or a swim in summertime, if it ever arrives. Having been the victim of eminent domain myself, I often wonder about the lost stories that go with places like this. I can see both sides of it now. This particular site is a 95% guarantee to see an eagle perched in the dead white pine towering over the abandoned fireplace. (I did check the chimney for critters before lighting the fire)

Great pictures, as usual!

Ice out is April 15 or so down here; what is it normally on Lake of the Woods?

Kabetogama., Rainy Lake here. Typical ice out May1 or so. I'm sure similar for LOTW.
