what a weird looking craft.

Yah, remember the British thought the "America" looked weird!
Now we can say the same of them.
Cheers,

Sir Richard
Is he really a knight?
Is he really a knight?
O.K. I watched the video, it seems his outrigger is to windward, I'd have expected to leeward, hard to tell at speed because of apparent wind.
Is he really a knight?
probably not. The suit of armor would make it hard to get into the cockpit.

Say what you like! This adds to the outright land speed record-supersonic-and the diesel land speed record which are also held by the British.
Hampshire man has broken the .....record by whizzing along a straight line course at 126mph.... in the desert.

Yep, outrigger to windward -- and it looks like the aka/arm is a wing designed to keep it down. I was looking for a trim tab that would be dynamically activated by the heel angle, but didn't spot one.
How about the angle of attack when fully up to speed? That's one efficient sail they've got there. Any guesses how fast it would go fitted with blades on ice?

Probably twice the speed on ice but where would you find a frozen lake large enough?

They did do a test on ice but found the surface too rough for high speed safety. Darn near shook the boat apart.

There's got to be some ballast in the windward pod.

Not a good time to hear "COMIN' ABOUT!":D
Very impressive but I'd be interested to know what the top speed record is for a craft that is able to sail in both directions. I'm more interested in the multidirectional speed sailers on water too. They have the advantage of being commercially viable to some extent.

I thought that I read it here, but maybe I'll have to dig for it. The comment that such speeds on ice are significantly limited by the lack of skate blade lubrication.

The claimed speed record on ice is much higher==between 140 and 180 mph, although I don't know how many such speed records have been documented. We clocked an iceboat at 107 mph in the 1960s on a measured mile course on a lake near Detroit. That wasn't a record, only a local weekend competition. Ice runners have very low resistance, and lots of lateral resistance. A wheel is more difficult, as it needs to create the lateral resistance with slip angles on the tire, and the rolling resistance is much higher.

In the video i's shown sailing on both tacks, just record breaking on one tack.
Brilliant and brave! Good on them!
But only about 120mph faster than our Folkboat... Rick
