He writes an occasional end-of-book column for Maine Boats, Harbors etc. magazine. This entry on underwater lights is an interesting take and the Glen Beck comment had me wiping the screen.

Some of the mega sailing yachts that anchor out in the harbor here in summer also have lights on top of the spreaders (some five sets on the biggest spars) to illuminate the masts at night. The ones with the tallest masts have flashing reds for airplane avoidance too! Quite a sight when all taken together.

FWIW the photo at the top of his blog is of Curtis Island at the mouth of Camden harbor. The Graves Ledge is in the upper right. The January row held by the Downeast TSCA explored most of what you see there.

Ben's a great guy and a real expert on electronics. His blog gets unbelievable readership. He also writes electronics columns for a couple different boating magazines.

As for the underwater lights, I think they're ridiculous, but then again, I think most of the electronics people are putting on boats these days are ridiculous!
