Anyone here that can recomment a good source of data for working with our modern ropes/lines?

This would include some knots, some splicing, and some simple cutting so the ends don't unravel. I've taken to carrying a lighter with me.

Brion Toss (Yacht Rigger's Apprentice, etc.) has all sorts of good books and videos on knots and splicing. His website is www.briontoss.com. He has good information of splicing single and double braid rope and high modulus line like spectra and vectran. His videos are clear and helpful - he does it exactly the same way in his own shop every day.

Cheers,
Garth

PS I don't work for Brion - he's a friend....

If you're splicing double braid or spectra etc., get yourself a set of stainless steel fids. These sets usually come with good instructions. You'll be so glad you did! Rick
