I'm helping twp young sailors repair their first boat (sadly not a woodenboat, but there is hope). Anyway, rub rail and hatch glides need to be replaced. They think original may have been teak, not real sure what's on boat now. Goal is good but quick fix and get them on the water to race. So, what wood(s) would you suggest? Cost is an issue, as is availability in Nebraska. So any of those South American exotics are out of the question.

White oak would likely be available in your area...that'll do for rub rail. You might like to try good mahogany or even doug fir (clear) for the hatch..I presume the hatch does not slide directly on wood...if so the fir is not appropriate. In that case use oak there as well.
