Upload it to here from your computer. http://imageshack.us/ Hotmail etc isn't set up to allow linking to something in your account like that. You can see it cause you're logged in on your computer, but no one else will be able to.

The img link is to an secure (https) server (https://hrnymw.bay.livefilestore.com) - to see the piccy I would have to sign on with a password.
Photobucket is a much better bet.

Here’s how to post photos on this forum:
First - don’t attach photos. Most web forums don’t allow it, and space limitations are the main reason why.
Second - Instead of attaching them to a thread, post the pics on the web somewhere. You have a free website area with any paid ISP’s email account, or use www.picturetrail.com, flickr, photobucket or other free image hosting service.
Once posted on the web, right-click the image to copy the URL (web address). Always test first by pasting the image URL into the window of a web browser and see if the image displays.
Remember, the IMAGE URL will end in .jpg, not .htm or html. URLs ending in .htm are the page that the image is at, not the image location itself. If the image URL ends in other code, try deleting everything after the “xxxxxx.jpg” part of the URL to get it to display on web forums.
Third - once posted on the web, try this procedure while logged in to this Forum:
1. Click the “User CP” link in the browser window in the top left of the menu bar.
2. Click the “Edit Options” link about 1/4 of the way down the left column.
3. In the “Misc Options” at the bottom of the next page, select “Enhanced Interface” from the pulldown list.
4. Once this interface has been selected, in any “Reply” window you can click the “insert photo” icon --> a little yellow square icon with the stamp in the upper right corner, the mountains in the lower center.
5. Once the little dialog box titled “Please enter the URL of your image” comes up, paste the URL of the photo in the field.
If unsure of the procedure, test first by pasting the image URL into the window of a web browser.

Weld it - you need a competent welder for that.
Then drill and possibly ream.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if there was a common replacement or afraid I would have to refabricate it myself. DanL

something like a catalina 22 is probably common enough that you could maybe find a replacement if you hunt about a bit.
welding works too though.

It appears to be a cast Al or Mg..?
certainly not magnesium... if it were you wouldn't need any zincs for your boat.

Can the boat's manufacturer supply it?

This is what I have found $93.00 and not the same. It would take some finnegalling I am sure. I tried calling them (Catalina Direct) a little while ago but no answer. They are on the Left coast and still waking up. I'll try later .Welding may be the easiest. I did try to remove the screws with no luck, to remove the center mount but they are certainly one. Now I wonder if they can weld it whlie still connected to the rudder without melting the snot.?

There has **gotta** be several Catalina owners associations around, with links to various sail and hardware suppliers. I'd work those contacts first if at all possible.

There's a user here named pipefitter that is a good welder. He'll have some good advice. Welding aluminum isn't easy.

Is there a vocational school anywhere near you ??
Find a school with a welding program, our local community college as small as it is, has welding. The welding instructors are certified and generally have many years experience in all phases of welding. They will get the job done right for you.

I just got off the phone with Catalina direct .He straightened me out abit.My boat has an optional kick up rudder. The replacement ,only sold as a kit is $390.00.
The next option is whether they can weld cast aluminium. Then it's whether I can get a block of Aluminium and machine it.

I have a friend with a Beneteau 27.7 who has just had a similar problem- cast alumnium mounting bracket for the rudder, with a bronze bush in it! Sure enough, the rudder started feeling kinda loose...
He's going to get it welded (difficult but possible), re-machined and then perhaps see if he can get a UHDP bush made instead. I suggested lignum-vitae...:D

http://www.catalinadirect.com/images/D1082_S01.jpg'Course this is a woodenboat forum... certainly there ought to be instruction around on how to build a wooden rudder.:p
Shouldn't be too much trouble to find someone to weld it back for you.

I have witnessed the welding of cast aluminum using a TIG welder. This was on the lower unit shell of a large outboard engine, and the welder didn't remove the part, just welded it while still attached to the tower.

Something else you might want to consider for the future.....
Is that copper bottom paint on your aluminum rudder? If so, its using your aluminum rudder as a zinc and will slowly eat it away. Better to leave it bare or get anti-fouling paint formulated for aluminum.
