Steven,I agree. This one was past her time. You can see where the hull had been glassed below the waterline.Never a good sign in my opinion.I was on site and had a look at the framing before it got completely broken up.It was getting cheesy for sure.Still a sad moment.

Like humans, boats are born and will surely die. :(

I gotta ask. why are there no folks salving these things?
from the pic's she has a mast and wheel, deck planking, deck timbers the house planking was probably good. an hour with a pry bar and sawsall could have saved someone a couple thousand buck's!
kinda makes me crazy the amount of high end wood goes into a boat and folks let em be chainsawed. Sigh..........

2metre,the guy who owned this particular boat paid $1.00 for it and then found out how much it was going to cost to fix up.It was actually seized by the Municipality cause it was illegally tied to the wharf and the local fishermen were complaining. The Municipality broke it up at the taxpayers expense, around $8,500.None of the wooden bits were worth salvaging although the demolition contractor got the metal bits, prop, engine, etc. She was definitely past her prime and it would probably have been cheaper to build from new than to try and restore her.Broken dreams,eh.

was her hull shape documented, or is it a standard hull

peter;it was a hull form that would have been common back in the 1930's or so among coastal boats. It was supposed to have been built in Newfoundland.I'm pretty sure no one recorded the lines of this particular hull. She probably would have been originally constructed from a carved half model.

Ah,Gary,it's a rural Municipality and they have to follow enviromental regulations for the disposal.Believe me it would have been preferable if it had burned or sunk at sea,but neither of those were options. They do have the option of pursuing the boats owner legally but he has no cash so that would be a further waste.Hard to get blood from a stone.
