Success today!

I finally got the engine running.

After fussing with the engine, I decided to pull the engine out and get it running on a test stand where it would be easier to work on.

So what did I find?

The fuel injection system was all gummed up.

So last week I got the injectors and injector pump back from the injector shop. Last weekend I installed all the components and ended up breaking a bolt on the injector pump (broke at 15 ft/lbs).
Pulled all the old bolts back out and replaced them.

Today I hooked up a temporary fuel system, cooling system (big bucket of water) and exhaust system. I bled the system and after a few failed attempts the engine finally fired and ran. It now start perfectly and runs smooth.

Still a few minor issues to iron out.

1. there is an oil leak on the oil pan gasket.
2. there is an oil leak on the from timing gear housing.
3. the engine stop lever isn't working.

Tomorrow, on to cleaning the fuel tank.
After many hours of very frustrating work this seems to be my first (albeit very small step forward) after so many false steps in the previous months.

Good news, Allen. :) I was pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when my engine started right up after I took it out and put it back in again.
Now if I can get the new stereo sorted out I'll be really happy.

Glad to hear this Allan. Always nice to see and hear an engine running after it hasn't been cranked for a few years.:)

You've had a couple of threads on here about the engine, glad to see you've got it sorted and you are now "familiar" with it's intricacies.

Slap some paint on it while it's out.

How many fuel filters are you going to put in line? Are you going to emulate Howard and have a day tank?
