G'day folks,
I have been looking on this forum for a short while now and there is a lot of good stuff to read on here. I am in that exciting phase of looking for a design to build, not as easy as it sounds... (and i thought women were bad at making their mind up!!!) and thought i might seek some ideas from here.
I am looking to build a launch in the 18-20' range and i have been inspired by the 22' hampton pulsifers. I was looking at a displacement launch originally but i was thinking that something in the semi-displacement style would be handy for that bit of extra speed if needed. Does anyone know of a design or where i can find plans for a boat of this styling and size? There are some great designs around for the displacement type boats, including the David Payne launches, but i really like the Pulsifer look and the potential for a few extra kts... Unfortunately for me, Mr Pulsifer doesn't sell his plans (prob a good move) so i've had to look else where.
Anyway, i look forward to your thoughts and info on my first thread http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
Cheers
Matt

The designer Paul Gartside has some 22-24' motor boats, both inboard and outboard powered that might fall into the category you're investigating. They have cabins however, but he'd probably be interested to work out a change: http://www.gartsideboats.com/catpow.php
From all accounts he's delightful to work with.

You could build a cold molded poulsbo boat which I'm almost finished building. Mine was stretched to 17'. Plans could be bought real cheap but are not very detailed. Mine is finshed off on the inside like no other poulsbo boat I've seen. It is a displacement hull. Heres a pic.

I sent you a private message with some info. I was trying to finish the boat for The Wooden Show the end of June but it doesn't look like it will make it. The boat may be finished but I still need a trailer, register and insurance for it.

I'd love to hear more about this boat as well. Any more pics? Where did you get the plans? What kind of power does it have? Thanks!

above is the link where I bought the plans for anyone interested. It is the Center for Woodenboats in Seattle Washington. The plans where only $15 U.S.and I'm not sure if available anymore . They were only 1 page showing lines and offsets. It also came with a history of the boat. I found errors in the offsets and the keel showed on the plans with a bend in it and I built it straight. I would be more than happy to send you a copy of the plans and the story when I would have time to do all the computer stuff. I will try to describe as much as I can of my boat since there seems to be so much interest all of a sudden. I will post as many pictures after as I can.
* L.O.A. plans were for 16' I built mine 17'
* Beam-5' , Draft about 18", weight will probably be about 1000-1200 LBS.
* Built ( cold molded ) with triple diagonal layers of 5/32" okuome plywood cut into 3" wide strips. Laminated with system three resins.
* keel covered with 2 layers of 10oz. cloth and hulls sides covered with 1 layer of 10 oz. glass cloth.
* epifanes epoxy primer and 3 coats of epifanes 2 part polyurethane paint.
* bulkheads, stringers and sole are 3/4" meranti plywood tabbed in with 12oz bias cloth.
* deck is 2 layers of 1/4" okuome and cockpit coaming is 3 layers of 1/4" okuome cover with 6oz. glass cloth.
* engine is a beta marine 14.5HP diesel with a TMC40 2:1 gearbox coupled to a AQ19 7/8" prop shaft spinning a 11x9 3 blade bronze prop.
* every piece of hardware when installed is polished 316 stainless steel.
* steering is a teleflex 4.2NFB system.
* rudder was custom made. I fabricated alot of parts myself.
I hope this helps anyone interested and if I missed anything then please ask. Now I will post some pictures so bear with me because I only know how to do them one at a time. I will try to post some at each stage of construction.

side view of entire boat. The deck isn't going to be finished bright. Right now it is in primer. Hopefully if all goes well the finsh paint will be on by the end of the week. I will finsh the deck with epifanes cream color with a white border and epifanes cream nonskid for the sole with a white border.

Took the past three days to spray the deck with 3 coats of epifanes 2 part poly white. masked it off to get a 1/2" border around hatches, coaming and rub rail and painted it with 2 coats of epifanes cream. will remove the rest of the drop cloths in the morning. will use a black rub rail when finished. Stileeto I estimate finish weight between 1-1200lbs.
