I have a shot at an international 110, i have not seen it in person yet, but i have seen a dozen pics and see nothing that tells me to bring the chain saw. it is complete, less the sails and is on a simple trailer that is movable.
it appears that it may be good enough to simply paint and go sail. it is plywood over sawn frames and the keel seems to be iron.
Is this worth grabbing to save from the burn pile, is there enough interest in this class to be worth my trouble if i do?
the guy says it WILL BE GONE by saturday morning whatever it takes. so i think if i don't grab it its going up in smoke.
I can't sail this on my little lake here, so I would resell at some point.
thanks for any insight,
jerry

That's a great little boat! Buy it! What are you waiting for. Go get it! Aloha Michael.:)

This is one of the classic C Ray Hunt designs. Many were home-built and heavy, with too much glass.
Have a look. If it seems right, it may well be right.
Make sure the spars and sails and keel and rudder etc are ready to go!

It is a great boat and if you don't like it yourself you might have more options to pass it on that what this guy could muster up.

If you don't take it, you will be missing a chance at having some great fun. Plywood with sawn frames, glass and iron keel is all that you need for those boats to have fun. A splinter in the water that you can hike out on and have a blast. Super fun and a little wet. Get it and have a ball.

The 110 is a cool boat. Great fun to race and a good daysailer. Go for it!

Let the 110 class know about it whether you get it or not. http://www.110class.com/
The keels are iron.

Wait until the last second before this guy destroys it and get it for free.

o.k., I am coming in late, but PLEASE tell me you got it?
110's are absolutely cool, and they are trying to come back. I know there are 210's at Gull Lake. There may be 110's there as well. The keel IS iron as far as I know. YES, take it. You can tow it behind a VW. An OLD VW, and they must be a blast to sail from the photos.
PLEASE tell us you got it?

OK,
I WILL take it, i definitely will not let it get burnt. I have not seen it first hand yet the guy says he has to have it gone by this saturday June 6. So if he sells it, he sells it. If not then I will make the best deal that i can, if it has no rot I may even pay close to what he is asking. If it has rot, well that should work in my favor now right?
thanks for the feedback, my hunch was to grab it and at the least resell through one of the active fleets.
pics once i have been there,
Thanks
Jerry
floatingkiwi: from the tone of the guys email I appear to be his last hope of getting rid of the thing short of a fire, so that may be HIS plan, too

If he 'has to have it gone' by Saturday (or chop it up) the trailer may become the main issue. Find out soon whether it's usable for the distance you have to move it, etc. It may turn out that Saturday is a false deadline.

good point rbgarr, the guy has moved the trailer this week. I will go prepared to change all the bearings and tires to get it home, its only 60 miles from my place.
thanks

Excellent. Looking forward to more info and hopefully photographs. Unless it has just been sitting full of leaves and water I am willing to bet it will wind up being a nice boat. BUT if it's not, I believe that there are a couple of nuts driving around all over the country salvaging old 110 hulls and taking them somewhere in Maine. Check out the site that Dave (rbgarr) linked if it looks like you might not want to take her on.

They are a bit quirky.
By all means contact the class association. There used to be strong affiliations in Michigan. Probably still are.

Mickey (& Jerry): Yes, we ("a couple of nuts") did end up with several 110's, which we brought home to Maine for refurb or resale, depending on what shape they were in. We picked up some in MA & some in RI, and were offered several in MI/WA/OR/CA, but those locations were just too far for us to go.
Currently, we are working with a CNC-cutter equipped shop to cut plywood ring frames as needed, with the idea that an inexpensive set of frames might be of use to us and others.
We trail to race sites at locations from Maine to Michigan to Ontario, but our fleet (Fleet 57) is about promoting 110 racing in Maine, and we do have boats available for that.

I am going to see it tonight, the price has now dropped into my range: about what the trailer will bring as scrap. if its salvageable I'll tow it home and store it. THEN figure out what to tell the wife, or what to buy her....
cheers
jerry
pics soon enough.
