This is the big kick-off event in the annual Aqua Chautauqua program. This year the fundraising benefits The Community Boatbuilding Project which launched it's first student built vessel "Journeyman" recently.
Note the references to singer/ songwriter Mick Bird who rowed his dory "Reach"- a Kit Africa and Jim Franken design and build- over 11,000 miles across the pacific in an attempt to circumnavigate rowing solo. This design was the basis for "Journeyman". See: http://www.goals.com/transrow
Captain Wayne Chimenti and the others involved are making a huge contribution to these young people's lives. I wish there had been something like this around when I was a school kid. I might have stayed in school.

I have provided some of the relevant links for those interested. The schedule lists the other regional - Puget Sound and San Juan Islands -performances that the Aqua Chautauqua will be presenting as the entourage sails, rows and motors it's way around the planned stops. this is a very fun event for any age, families especially. I hope I meet some of you out here this weekend!
