View Full Version : Fueling integral tanked outboards?
Anyone have a clever solution to avoid making pretty rainbows? Motor is a 2.5 mariner(tohatsu) Thanks

Be careful - seriously. I've got the 3.5 Tohatsu and can manage it. I use a plastic fuel container with pouring spout.

A funnel with a built-in screen, modified with loops to take a flat bungee or two that hold it in place on the outboard. The screen is nice because the funnels always seem to collect flotsam and jetsam, as does the spout on the gascan.
That way you only have to juggle the gas can and keep from falling overboard or dropping anything

We have a Honda 2 hp outboard with an intergal tank. I fill it up before mounting it on the boat. For refueling it while on the boat I bought one of those 1 quart camping fuel bottles made my MSR, which you can find at Campmore. They have a spout integral with the lid that is easy to control. I hardly ever spill a drop. When motoring about I keep a full bottle aboard as it holds just about enough to fill the Honda tank.

I used to use a dish soap container. Flip the lid, stick it in the tank and squeeze. Just make sure to wash out all of the soap first. Jim....

What Dale said. I have a 2hp Johnson. It runs for two hours on a quart of gas which is what the integral tank holds. I hardly ever run it that long, but I do what Dale does.

New kind of cheapo fuel can with an integral vent on the spout itself. Haven't spilled a drop since we picked up a one gal. version. Cost like less than 3 bucks.

Anybody try one of these? I've been looking for a good way to fill the outboard on the dinghy plus the portable generator. Soap bottle sounds good, but how do you fill the bottle?
They also have a hand-pump one, but that's $30. This one is $12 at Amazon. It looks like you could turn it on and off pretty quickly, and that the extra would flow back down into the container.
