Just couldn't resist the temptation.

My neighbor had to sell her Typhoon because she just got too old to start the outboard. It was her baby. She cried when I hitched it up to my van and took it away.

New sails, almost new motor, full cushions, lots of bronze hardware, anchor, boarding ladder, lights, tool kit, compass, stereo, PFDs, mooring lines, fenders, original owner's manual.

I think you may have to go pray at the Church of the Holey Wooden Boat for forgiveness... ;):D

My Dad had one. They are nice boats.

As long as it isn't a Bayliner, you will be forgiven.:D

If you decide that you must repent, let me know. I will ease your conscience. I'm not too far away and I will take good care of her.

Seems like the Cape Dory line gets a continued blessing from the crowd here. They're almost thought of as honorary wooden boats. Good find. Sorry the lady cried, that couldn't have been easy.

Good boats. Once you rig her with lazy lifts and jiffy reefing you'll need dread not too much. I speak from experience that the cabin is a bit snug, what with the glass and all, so condensation is a real problem. Make a nice bow arched boom tent and something that flattens out the foot well so you can sleep out there. Treat the cabin as simply a place to keep your gear dry during the sail or, if you're really stuck out, for one person to doss out on the leeward berth is only relative misery.

A great mini-cruiser that will bring you home alive.

By the way, every Typhoon owner I've known whose OB broke found that the pleasure of real sailing so outweighed getting home for supper or making Port A rather than the more accessible (for that day and wind) Port B just not worth the candel. Maybe have a sweep on deck but let the OB molder in the garage.

G'luck

Schedule a regular sail with the PO. You'd appreciate it if you were in her shoes.

Sweet lines.

Your towing with the same vehicle I have; what does she weigh and how did you find the tow went?

Gert,

The boat weighs 2000. Probably close to 2500 towing weight with trailer and gear. My Astro is AWD with the V-6. Towing was not a problem, but I never got beyond 35 MPH here in town. No trailer brakes, but the van brakes seem adequate. I think the AWD Astros are rated to tow 4000.

Make that the Carl Alberg designs.

Terry, getcher ass out her to the coast so we can go cruising in company--I'll bring my (not) wooden Stone Horse. FG boats that look and act like wood boats are an honorable compromise for those of us too poor to afford the maintenance.

James,
I think for this summer I'll stay right here on Lake P.O.
No tides to contend with, nice sandy beaches, 80+ degrees, no rain, no fog, skinny-dipping in the middle of the lake. When I get tired of the bliss I'll head over to Puget Sound.

I was out last night for about 3 - 4 hours. Had a fantastic sail by myself. Played around with tying the tiller so I can go up forward or get stuff from down below. I found she will keep a pretty straight course if you dont move around too much.
They arent wood...but they are plentiful and relatively cheap. I may sell mine next spring and get something bigger though. Alberg had a good eye.

Id much rather have a Dark Harbor 17 but they dont exist out here.

It is 1842, you are General Sir Charles James Napier; you have just disobeyed your orders to put down a rebellion and have conquered the province of Sindh, in todays Pakistan, so you send a one word telegram:

"PECCAVI"

(I have sinned/Sindh)

More Napierisms:

On independence:

"So perverse is mankind that every nationality prefers to be misgoverned by its own people than to be well ruled by another".

On Suttee:

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."[ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_James_Napier#cite_note-quote-2)

Sinned?

That's not sinnin'

I bought a Holder 12 and and Escape Captiva (Can't figure out which side of the hull is supposed to be in the water!) last weekend.

That's sinnin'

BTW: The Typhoon is on the shortest of short lists of boats that I hope to own someday.
