that sprays on a vertical wood surface, emulsifies grease, and dries so the result can be vacuumed...

I'm cleaning over a cookstove in a post and beam kitchen. The beams are untreated wood, drywall in between....what a mess.

lived in, I'd say...

TSP would make an even bigger mess, smearing and dripping, but I could apply it with a garden sprayer...

Try Go-Jo hand cleaner. It will cut the grease and depending on the grain of the wood should wipe off well. If it does not wipe off completely most of what will be left is lanolin from what I understand and won't hurt anything. Unless some poor schlub tries to finish the beams....

spray foaming carpet cleaners might work...or spray grease spot remover for clothes that dries to a white powder....expensive if it's a big area though...I'd go for lots of rags and solvents and patience.....
