I have what I would consider an odd question. Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s I was a commercial fisherman around Willoughby / Norfolk Va., but mostly I worked out of Mann’s Harbor and Stumpy Point N.C.
I was looking for a large workboat as we were setting up large haul seine to work in the Pamlico Sound N.C.. I came across a large buy boat in the Deltaville Va. area, she was about 50-55 ft. she was named Maggie something. She had a 671 Detroit with a capital gear, she needed lots of topside work but she was really cheap, $3500.
I ended up buying a boat called Dawn III located at the docks of Montgomery and Wilson Railway in Deltaville Va. Had Willis do a little work on her and changed her name to the Ida J. D250170 built in 1946 39ft. and worked her for about 10 years and sold her down in Mann’s Harbor, (one of the sadist days of my life).
The question that I am going around my elbow to get to is does anyone know of that boat Maggie, and what ever happened to her? I really wanted to buy it but time was of the essence and it was going to take more time then we had to get it ready. I always think to myself I hope that boat made it because it was a fine boat.
I tried using Goggle, the documentation site from the Coast Guard, and have turned up nothing; I thought that maybe someone on this site would know. Thanks for reading, as well as any help. Larry.
