I was wondering if anyone used a boat design software comparable to Delftship but on a Mac? I'm looking to inport a table of offsets for a hull, view it, and get the displacement for various waterlines. Delftship does this but it runs only on Windows.

Thanks,
Will

can you do the calculations by hand...or do you need some help?

Funny that thought just crossed my mind before I got back to this thread. It is certainly more work but may be more accurate when considering how the program handles various details. The amidships is easy to calculate but it is much trickier to write code to correctly handle the boundaries such as the stem and stern.

I think the basic idea is to use the Simpsons rules but if anyone has any tricks and tips I'm all ears.

Thanks Chuck. I pulled the plans out and started looking at the table of offsets - not as simple as I envisioned starting out. There's chines and shear and other things that make it real interesting. It'll take a bit longer but not too difficult. I'll send them to you to have a crack at them.

A pretty good discussion on this very topic can be found here:

If you run an Intel Mac, you can run a virtual machine and Windoze(tm) in it and therefore Delftship, Freeship or anything else.

I am running DelftShip without any problems on Virtual Box, a FREE virtual machine from Sun Microsystems. Just Google it! It's said to be slower than the commercial emulators, but I haven't noticed any difference. Of course it is a tad slower than booting up in Windoze(tm) through bootcamp to run natively.
