I would like to build a double paddle with a ferrule in the middle to take apart. Does anyone know of a source for ferrules? Thanks

They sell kits for paddles and you can also buy just the ferrule, if desired. It's some sort of carbon fiber construction and designed to work on wood, 'glass or aluminum shafts. You could also see if you could talk Mitchell Paddles out of one, but I don't know if they will sell one without the rest of the paddle attached to it.

A year or two ago now I built a kayak paddle in two pieces that fitted together with a brass ferrule. Is this the sort of thing you want?

All that is necessary is to get two 6" length of brass tubing, one a sliding fit inside the other, and sleeve them to the shafts of each paddle. The smaller diameter piece has the same OD as the timber itself. The widere piece has a notch taken out at the end, and a mating screwhead projects a little from the other, so as to keep the feathering angle correct when the shafts are joined.

Sandpaper and vaseline have kept the joint working for about 30 years so far.
