Any developments with the WOOD Regatta idea?

I'm trying, R, I'm trying. When and where would you like it?

I've done almost all the Portsmouth Handicap ratings for a majority of the classes that will attend.

Paul, We had an epic race in Newport one WB Show in Bull and Bear, in which the WB team pulled an absolute horizon job on our friends from Cruising World.

I wonder if I still have that video....

I was only aware of the NY32s in Maine. Is there any class of wood boats on Fishers Island anymore? Perhaps a 'visit' there, or by a fleet to Mystic?

In my earlier post I was looking for comment as to whether or not boaters and their families are willing to embrace boating in its more basic forms.

I think definitely so, Bruce. I was just speaking with the president of C. Raymond Hunt's design office about this. (I was urging them to update the 210.)

Carl, I saw that race it was when the show was at fort adams. But, the boats were'nt available for the general public just the show luminaries.

Another highlight of that particular show was the guys Gannon and Benjamin put on a couple of seminars and they were awesome.

That's true on both counts. And, if you know my friends from Cruising World, Paul, you'd know they're NOT luminaries!

They'd have to go down the River, timed so that the bridges would be open. Or keep them nearby in Noank or Stonington.. but then they wouldn't be in the Show, which would be a shame.....

Afternoon Carl and WB team,

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent article on George Luzier in issue #209.

I hope articles about the old timers inspire others as much as they do me and would love to see more of them.

I am pleased to update you that George had quadruple bypass surgery in mid August (caught before any damage to his heart) and is recovering well. He is already back in the shop and preparing to resume work on his latest project.

He wanted a little skiff to ride around Sarasota Bay in so he drew this one up and got to building. He is about to start planking.

There's a pretty active fleet of IODs there, I believe.

And, nearby, a VERY active fleet of Mirrors (see other posts).

Two that are in the waning stages of development by their designers right now, Robin. My lips are sealed.. until they're sea-trialed and ready to kit.

The Design Challenge certainly elicits a lot of comments, doesn't it? I wonder what the % is of those that are being built? One of my favorites is the PT Skiff, which Russ Brown is going to be kitting in Port Townsend.

A quick question about your classifieds: can photos and descriptions for the same boat be changed from month to month or is that subject to a charge beyond renewal fees.

Having designed custom boats in the past, I learned that most clients didn't really know what they wanted or could realstically afford. My conversation with the boat dealer caused me to wonder if there is a market for well built basic boats, and or boats that people would build facing our challening economy.

I must take my leave folks, so indulge me a quick observation of fatherhood, after one week, and how it's like sailing: The sleep deprivation is a lot like that experienced on a passage. It's such a blissful event that exhaustion isn't the end result. The curl of a wave, the curl of his little smile (yep, he's already smiling) just make me want to stay awake and watch. Diaper changes are like headsail changes. They seem to happen at the same hours, with the same frequency, and with the same risk of a soaking--especially with a son.

They can also make sounds and rumblings that worry and confuse the skipper... just like an inboard or outboard engine.

As far as the WOOD Regatta goes I will be in Savannah in April of next year and thought the dates and places for it were as yet unsettled: Charleston or Beaufort, SC or St. Pete, FLA were the last places I recall being considered.
